Absurd is putting it strongly, perhaps overly so. Small children damage a lot of stuff, I've seen it myself! Kids pull or trip on charging cables, spill juice in the car, get their grubby/sticky hands on stuff.
Dogs track mud into and stink up cars. I once lived with a dog that liked to drink seawater when taken to the beach and would have diarrhea 15 minutes later like clockwork. The first time the owner took him home from the beach in his leased car, he was in for a big surprise.
- x0x0 7y agoAnd the fur. The undercoat gets everywhere. Super fine white fur that sticks in carpet / upholstery.
- village-idiot 7y agoAll of these seem preventable to me. Especially the juice, don’t give your kids sweet drinks in the car. Also, juice is basically just soda. All sugar with very little redeeming value.
- burfog 7y agoThe juice problem is easily preventable as long as you don't have a spouse who disagrees with a no-juice policy. You'd also have to diaper kids for years after you'd normally consider them potty trained. Small ones don't plan ahead, don't tell you in advance, and aren't as determined to hold it as you might be. You'd also need to have something to clean dirty hands.
- secabeen 7y agoIn the end, you can probably get away with keeping your car clean by making it your thing. "No food, sit quietly in this car!" It's not a battle I'd choose to fight with my kids, but to each their own. It would be even harder with a couch, or other furniture that lives in your home.
- nasmorn 7y agoIn the car only water and dry food, is not that onerous a rule.
- village-idiot 7y agoI remain shocked at how many people eat in their cars, especially messy or aromatic Foods. I love in ‘n out, but I sure as heck don’t want the inside of my car to smell like it.
- burfog 7y agoMe too. What am I supposed to do about it, divorce my wife or take away her car keys? This is not a battle I can win without major collateral damage. My car is nasty. The seats are brown with aftermarket goo. This is how it is when you must cooperate and compromise with other people.
- village-idiot 7y agoThis is a strong argument for a second car, which would be much cheaper than a divorce.
- HeyLaughingBoy 7y agoSome of us like our spouses enough to be in the same car with them on trips... Not to mention that avoiding trash hardly seems like "a strong argument for a second car."
- village-idiot 7y agoWhat a strange thing to get angry at me for.
