There is no description on how micro frontends can be structured in practice. The run down in the marketing section is feels like a sales talk. No serious mentions of downside.
Pretty blunt article hosted on martin fowlers domain.
What I would expect is an analysis of strategies to assemble micro fronteds.
- hestefisk 7y agoAgree. Feels more like a consulting term made up to sell consulting services (which in this case would be the analysis of strategies to assemble them). I am struggling to see how this is different from UI component models, ie XAML.

- wbronitsky 7y agoI agree. There is no coherent analysis of how to actually enable this, and what the real pros and cons are. The article also assumes that you have the same order of frontends and services, which is a weak assumption, and that branding, style and design coherency are not important parts of a frontend experience, which is even weaker. This is an incredibly lame argument for any system. I expect a whole lot better from Fowler's blog
- charlieflowers 7y agoI think this is premature. They're starting with the 100,000 foot overview of why micro-frontends can be valuable. More installments in the series will dig into the details.

- gcpwnd 7y agoFYI Just noticed the block at the bottom of the article that this is just the first part of a series. Maybe a premature quality verdict, but that fact was poorly communicated.
- gitgud 7y agoI would guess that they could be structured with iframes. Or deployed to separate url paths eg: example.com/login (login webapp) example.com/store (store webapp) But I'm not sure they would be considered micro front ends then...
- GordonS 7y agoI haven't used iframes for at least 15 years, so I've kind of lost track of their limitations. Are there limitations on Javascript accessing inside the iframe and/or vice-versa?
- gitgud 7y agoYeah, they're actually highly sandboxed which is good for isolation but makes it hard to communicate between and update components on the page
