Ask HN: Where to Connect with Algo Traders?
I’ve recently started tweaking an algo trading bot I built from scratch.
I know being profitable is very very difficult. I’m not trying to be the next RenTec.. but I do want to get better.
Are there any chat groups or forums to connect with other algo traders and quants?
Looking for things a bit off the beaten path, rather than the traditional resources that show up in the top google results where people are asking the same generic questions.
I’m not so much looking for ‘secret sauce’ algorithms, rather to talk with others doing the same sorts of things. The mechanics, data feeds etc.
- __d 7y agoIt's tough to find people willing to talk about anything substantial, because doing so gives away information that is otherwise giving them an edge over you ... Quantopian has some forums, there's groups on LinkedIn, but there's very little discussion of actual techniques, even for fairly basic stuff.
- bowlofstew 7y agoI went down a similar path with my "system" albeit hard to call it that but moreover an itch that needed scratched. I found both of these sites useful for bouncing ideas around with other like-minded individuals. nuclearphynance.com forum.wilmott.com

- rajacombinator 7y agoBasically no one that knows anything shares anything substantial in this industry. You can dig for hints but won’t find much.
- TheAlchemist 7y agoI would recommend http://www.nuclearphynance.com/ http://www.nuclearphynance.com/ Much less activity lately, but very good insights usually. Some finance / technical knowledge is necessary though - otherwise you will struggle to understand the topics.
- throwawaymath 7y agoJoin #R-finance on Freenode. Contrary to the name, the channel is a watering hole for all things quantitative finance, not just R. Several of the frequent members happen to be involved in the R community.
- jxm262 7y agoHonestly I've found alot of help on specific questions on quant.stackexchange.com , also as another person commented - /r/algotrading will very rarely occasionally have good nuggets of info. If you ask a 'good' question there, you'll likely get some decent response.
