- mcescalante 7y agoYes, I found this very ironic. Apple says this in their deprecations in the release notes for 10.15 beta: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos_release_notes/macos_10_15_beta_release_notes#3318248 https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos_release_note...
- seaborn63 7y agoWow I somehow missed this. Not jazzed about it, but it shouldn't be too bad to install
- king_magic 7y agoI think it's actually a blessing in disguise... managing Python environments on macOS has always been a massive nightmare precisely because of the default Apple Python environment.
- SOLAR_FIELDS 7y agoExactly - in a way that was a blessing in disguise because Python environments on MacOS is such a massive nightmare that it forced me to learn to use venv in all cases.
- shawnz 7y agoNote that the latest version to ship with mac OS was 2.7, so it didn't exactly ship with well-maintained support
- larkost 7y agoThis statement is misleading. Apple kept up with the 2.x versions, the same as almost every linux distro. Only recently have the linux distros started to move on to Python 3.x. And most of them still include Python 2.x (specifically 2.7) as the default `python`, and have added Python 3.x as `python3`. It is not correct to say that Apple did not maintain support for it.
- em500 7y agoCurrent macOS system Python is 2.7.10 (Mojave 10.14.5). Upstream Python is 2.7.15.
- ploxiln 7y ago... and 2.7.10 is from May 2015 - 4 years ago
- shawnz 7y agoSimilarly I think it's misleading to imply Apple ever really encouraged the use of Python given they never shipped with 3. Those minor version upgrades are the bare minimum requirement to produce a stable product. And I'm not saying those Linux distros are any better, although at least they typically have officially supported Python 3 packages, even if they are not installed in a stock installation.
- bdcravens 7y agoStrictly speaking though, it's not out of the box. From MS's blog about this: "While Python continues to remain completely independent from the operating system, every install of Windows will include python and python3 commands that take you directly to the Python store page" https://devblogs.microsoft.com/python/python-in-the-windows-10-may-2019-update/ https://devblogs.microsoft.com/python/python-in-the-windows-...
- sigzero 7y agoI think Apple made the right choice. Anyone who cares is going to install it themselves in a manner they choose (I usually use homebrew).
- lcnmrn 7y agoIt now ships with Xcode. Use xcode-select and/or type python3.
