As an Australian, I've always used "block" to mean an arbitrary short distance, up to maybe 1 km. It's not an actual measurement, but rather a figure of speech

As an Australian, I've always used "block" to mean an arbitrary short distance, up to maybe 1 km.
It's not an actual measurement, but rather a figure of speech. Just like "round the corner" doesn't actually mean literally around the corner.
