- fphhotchips 7y agoYes. Security problems are famously unique to Android. https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2019/01/29/apple-ios-12-1-3-release-iphone-xs-max-xr-problem-facetime-problem-video-calls-audio-calls/#4b9da31a4020 https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2019/01/29/apple-io...

- mirceal 7y agoandroid is both a success and a failure. i used to be a huge android fannoi before switching to iphone. even for a highly technical person, maintaining an android phone is too much.

- gordon_freeman 7y agoAnd Waze too. I love that app's singular focus in improving the driving experience and nothing else as a Maps product.
- snazz 7y agoI’m surprised (and glad) they didn’t integrate it into Google Maps and shut down Waze.
- fernandotakai 7y agoalmost no-one i know that uses waze knows that it's a google product. some even say "i don't even know why google doesn't buy waze!". (in my country, waze is the go to app for navigation for everyone)
- nacs 7y agoI'm pretty sure its because it allows them to experiment with delivering advertisements that they wouldn't be able to shove into GMaps without protest (Waze has ads that cover half the screen with a banner ad every time your car slows down/stops for example).
- gordon_freeman 7y agoEven I am surprised too but I guess since Google started working on self-driving cars and then after seeing the advent of ride-hailing apps, they may have thought to keep Waze so one day Google can convert it into a ride-hailing + navigation app. Maybe that's the plan who knows!

- joeldo 7y agoYouTube has certainly faired well (even if it is not yet profitable).
- systemBuilder 7y agoI think you go too far! It has been profitable for almost 3 years out of 14 so far!
- justizin 7y agoIndeed, it is the #1 destination for children to be offered Nazi propaganda as related content on episodes of Teletubbies.

- quirmian 7y agoTwo intellectually low quality points that get made for almost every google related news item - 1. “When will Google deprecate this feature/product/service?” 2. “None of Google’s acquisitions have done well”.
- mirceal 7y agoi think these are fair game and in the long term are going to be an issue for google. once their core business stops working and/or gets serious competition they’re going to be in trouble.
