If used sanely, the power consumption cost is tiny compared to buying a new computer.

- JohnJamesRambo 7y agoI mean the HP Z220 workstation he has a photo of has an i5, is the power consumption that much more than any other PC? https://www.wattdoesituse.com/hp-z220-workstation https://www.wattdoesituse.com/hp-z220-workstation This says 8 hours a day would be $23 a year.
- antisthenes 7y agoI honestly don't know a single person or a business who shuts down computers for 16 hours/day consistently. Not a single one. Power consumption should be measured as 8-10 hours at 50% load, and 14-16 hours at idle. That easily doubles your estimates, I think. Not to mention the places where power is more expensive than $0.12/KWh
- dymk 7y agoCall it $100 a year then. That's not very much if you're already buying a machine to tinker around with.
