YouTube started out as a way to empower people to post home videos on the internet, a place for every day people to share video.
And you're right, it has always restricted illegal content. And that's a good line to draw.
So..
What's illegal about this new content?
Or what has changed that they now think they're ready to judge what is extreme and hateful?
Or what has changed that they now think they even should?
- foldr 7y agoPorn isn't illegal, but has always been banned on youtube.
- a-afterglow 7y agoBut isn't it a platform for all ages? In which case, it would be illegal for YouTube to host porn, wouldn't it?
- foldr 7y agoAge control isn't a legal requirement for websites that host porn in the USA as far as I know. Google, for example, will return porn in image search results (if you disable the safe search filter), and you don't have to verify your age first to do that.
- lugg 7y agoAre you going to answer my questions or just keep repeating strawmans?
- dang 7y agoCould you please stop posting uncivil and/or unsubstantive comments to Hacker News? You've done it repeatedly, it's not what this site is for, and we eventually ban accounts that do that. It would be great if you would review https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and take the spirit of this site to heart when posting here.
