On some teams I've managed, I have had that one developer that's a great producer, but projected a great deal of negative energy into the group. This situation has to be dealt with as soon as it's recognized. Some of the actions I have resorted to is heavy "counseling", work from home, rent a small office separate from the main work space or bite the bullet and fire them.
