I think it’s pretty disingenuous to suggest that not allowing foreskin amputation nullifies all of Judaism. Many Jewish people whose parents decided not to circumcise them grow up to have fulfilling spiritual and cultural lives. No one does a dick check when you walk into synagogue.
There are many ways to maintain the symbolic importance of circumcision without resorting to unnecessary amputation, such as cutting a small mark in the foreskin to symbolize circumcision.
- droithomme 7y agoNearly all early Christians were required to sacrifice to the Roman emperor acknowledging His Divinity as God Emperor. They then received a chit called a Libellus that indicated they had sacrificed. Only the Christians that did not have a libellus and refused to conform with the legal requirement to sacrifice were executed. Most everyone said it's no big deal. You can acknowledge the God Emperor and still be a faithful Christian. Those that disagreed are now considered to have been "Martyrs", those who died for their faith. But perhaps they were just delusional. What is the harm in sacrificing to the Emperor, acknowledging he is the True God? You can secretly believe in your heart of heart otherwise and there is no problem with that, most people say. It's perfectly fine to kill, to abuse, to do whatever you personally feel is ok. All will be fine. Just do it.
- MagicPropmaker 7y agoSorry. It is a requirement for a male Jew. No other "method" is acceptable. For non-Jews, there's rarely a reason for it. Any Jew who doesn't circumcise is operating outside the context of Judaism, and is doing something very non-Jewish.
