I think funding doesn't qualify or disqualify him, if funding would give extra credibility points, tomorrow all charlatans of the world would fund something. He also raises big amounts of money and offers no results and that fact alone does imply nothing by itself. P.D. many bluff companies have also lots of publications, papers etc... and that doesn't mean that they are innovative.
