... and Google, Cisco, ... are closely associated with the American government ...
> The Chinese government threatens democracies and good people everywhere with its concentration camps.
As an European: Well, so does the United States. Turns out that being assholes to each others seems to be a human trait.
- maratd 7y agoThe US has concentration camps? Do tell.
- knob 7y agoDid you know about these? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internment_of_Japanese_Americans https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internment_of_Japanese_Ameri...
- dodobirdlord 7y ago> has: present tense third-person singular of HAVE Not only does this appear to be whataboutism, it doesn't even make sense. By modern standards the past activities of pretty much any nation are unacceptable.

- maratd 7y agoPretty sure there's a big difference between being detained for an act and being detained for just existing.
- dmitriid 7y agoImmigrant detainment facilities are getting real close to the definition. Not anywhere on the same scale though.
- natalyarostova 7y agoThis false equivalence between China and the US and their modern human rights record is absurd.
- briandear 7y agoPutting people in re-education camps because of their ethnicity or religion isn’t the same as detaining illegal aliens. The US isn’t putting people in camps because of ethnicity or religion. Illegal aliens are in “camps” because they entered the US illegally. Drawing an equivalence between concentration camps (of the Nazi variety) and US immigration enforcement is ridiculous. If that difference can’t be discerned, then any intelligent debate is impossible. The immigration policy of the US is worthy of debate, but comparing the US to China or Nazi Germany is just nonsense.
- lugg 7y agoIntelligent debate? Are you fucking kidding me with that dismissive bullshit? Look closer at your prison system, asylum seekers and Gitmo. I'm not saying there aren't reasons for all this, and I'm not saying the US is worse than China, let alone anywhere near as bad as Nazis. But holy shit if you can't see a semblance I don't know what world you're living in. P.S. saying they're illegals and that gives you the right to deport them is one thing, but saying it makes it ok to cage them and their kids up is a whole nother ball game. Nazis made it illegal to be Jewish too.
- dang 7y agoWould you not please break the guidelines with rants like this on HN? No matter how wrong the comment you're replying to is, it only makes this place worse. briandear shouldn't have broken the guidelines with "just nonsense", but breaking them 10x more is definitely not helping. Also, you've posted several unsubstantive comments recently. We're hoping to do better than that on this site, so if you'd read https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and take their spirit to heart, we'd appreciate it.
