I finally stopped hiding my contempt for this sort of hiring process. The massive majority of positions out there are perfectly fine with a generalist that doesn't have photographic memory of their old college algorithms book but can code their way out of a variety of bag materials. Maybe one day AIs will replace that level of software engineering, but we're still far away.
