If you'd like a pretty reasonable terminal right now you can look at ConEmu or cmder (which is a further customised version of ConEmu). You get tabs and reasonable key shortcuts etc. I'm also looking forward to the new terminal though, I hope it'll be a lot nicer.

Installing cmder, which runs over ConEmu, gives you a really nice terminal with lots of configurability.
