I just recently stumbled over https://spin.atomicobject.com/2016/05/28/log-bash-history/ https://spin.atomicobject.com/2016/05/28/log-bash-history/ Using PROMPT_COMMAND to log every command in a separate timestamped log file. This allows you to use a much better format than bash history has to be in. Easily readable to see what you've been doing and extremly efficient to grep for.
