One premise this article is based on is that more features = a better product. However that isn't always the case. Having a codebase which makes it easier to add new features isn't necessarily going to make that product succeed over a competitor.
If Product A adds 10 bad/mediocre features it'll become bloated and hard to use. If Product B, in the meantime, adds 2 good/great features the market will recognise this. Now Product A is stuck with 10 features they don't want. And good luck trying to take away those features from your users!
