A story like this still doesn't make me want to pick up hitchhikers.
I used to live in the metro-Detroit area and there have been at least 3 or 4 cases in the past year where people have been robbed at gunpoint by alleged hitchhikers. This is what makes me think that this country has gone to hell.

I should just ignore it and chock it up to "fear". The story linked here tries to get me with sympathy instead of fear. You shouldn't fall victim either.
- WiseWeasel 16y agoWhat about the three hundred million others that didn't get robbed this week? You can take precautions, but to let anxiety consume you, or to change the way you treat people because of these news stories is simply a pitiful demonstration of weak-mindedness.
- prodigal_erik 16y agoThe question is how many people in metro Detroit picked up a hitchhiker and didn't get robbed. The answer is not 300 million. Suppose it's three? That would make the odds 50:50. Would you still not change the way you treat people?
