Natural Gas characterized as Freedom Gas in official US government press release
- greesil 7y agoBut methane is still methane, thank goodness.
- duxup 7y agoThese a petty name change like this feels like corporate driven re-branding, or worse like stuff I would associate with a banana republic. I mean if you want to name your new bill something silly or absurd that is one thing, renaming actual things is kinda weird.
- saluki 7y agoFreedom Fries anyone? Anyone?
- kibwen 7y agoDon't forget Liberty Cabbage, from a hundred years before! https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/liberty_cabbage https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/liberty_cabbage
- duxup 7y agoI'm kinda ok with freedom fries as it is random restaurants doing whatever they want. It might be silly, but whatever. Government goes copy and paste over natural gas... for some reason that creeps me out a bit.
- dragonwriter 7y ago> I'm kinda ok with freedom fries as it is random restaurants doing whatever they want. No, Freedom Fries was the US Congress' Chair of the Committee on House Administration directing three congressional cafeterias.
- duxup 7y agoCafeteria, it's petty for sure, but IMO still low enough / unimportant enough for me not to care as much. For some reason this seems one step into the more wonky / serious thing. It probabbly also matters that I feel like I've seen other "banana republic" like isms out there.
- sneakernets 7y agoRemember that Patton Oswalt bit on the KFC Famous Bowls and Double Down sandwiches? Remember when we naive souls thought it couldn't get any worse?
- lutorm 7y agoIs it still April 1st?
- WhompingWindows 7y ago“Increasing export capacity from the Freeport LNG project is critical to spreading freedom gas throughout the world by giving America’s allies a diverse and affordable source of clean energy." The Trump administration needs to be removed for the sake of our planet and all our descendants. These governmental departments are turning into official arms of the pro-pollution lobbyists who throw money at the GOP. LNG is not a clean energy source. It may be less dirty than coal, it's still far dirtier than what we need to be using to have any hope of avoiding catastrophe.
- zbyte64 7y agoThe fart jokes just write themselves.
- nostromo 7y agoFlagged for the misleading title submission by OP. No, they aren't renaming anything. It was a simple neologism to drive home the point that using our own energy vs OPEC imports move us towards energy independence.
- headcanon 7y agoThe text of the report is still pretty star-spangled ridiculous though. I was entertained.
- ason 7y agoNo kidding.. I had to scroll back up to the top to make sure I wasn't on The Onion.
- icegreentea2 7y agoYou're not exactly wrong... but the context of the quotes are around increasing export capacity to the world, and Europe specifically. It's not about increasing American energy independence, it's about providing an alternate LNG source to Europe.
- mring33621 7y agoSo you are going to unilaterally hide an article that the readership here (IMHO) wants to read and likely will enjoy, due to your possibly politically motivated judgement against the headline? How about simply ask a mod to rewrite the headline?
- mfatica 7y agoI am against misinformation regardless of political motivation. If a title is misleading then it is misleading.
- mring33621 7y agoOK, mfatica and nostromo, I have edited the headline. Do your objections still stand? If not, please unflag.
- taf2 7y agothis is 1984?
- Bonooru 7y agoSince there is a quote calling it "natural gas" later on, I'm guessing this is a typo on the city "Freemont", since that's where the gas is coming from. I've since been corrected... Seems I didn't read closely enough.
- kardos 7y agoThe article calls it natural gas a number of times, it's the quoted officials that are using fanciful language
- Reelin 7y agoIf only it was just a typo. > ... the Freeport LNG project is critical to spreading freedom gas throughout the world ... > ... that allows for molecules of U.S. freedom to be exported to the world,” said Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy Steven Winberg ... "molecules of U.S. freedom"
- asplake 7y ago“an efficient regulatory system that allows for molecules of U.S. freedom to be exported to the world”. Sometimes it’s hard to tell truth from satire
- jonnycomputer 7y ago>“Approval of additional LNG exports from Freeport LNG furthers this Administration’s commitment to promoting American energy, American jobs, and the American economy. Further, increased supplies of U.S. natural gas on the world market are critical to advancing clean energy and the energy security of our allies around the globe. With the U.S. in another year of record-setting natural gas production, I am pleased that the Department of Energy is doing what it can to promote an efficient regulatory system that allows for molecules of U.S. freedom to be exported to the world,” said Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy Steven Winberg, who signed the export order and was also in attendance at the Clean Energy Ministerial. Yeah, flag OP all you want, but its pretty friggin ridiculous.
- sneakernets 7y ago"2 dozen people were killed in a Freedom Gas explosion last night..."
- jonnycomputer 7y ago"GW Molecules"
- Simulacra 7y agoThis is hilarious. /Ron Swanson America gif
- slippinjimmy 7y agoThey are assholes. Why not simply say to the 99%, "You can eat cake and swim." This is not about OPEC. It is about rejection of alternative energy development.
- crispinb 7y agoThe US becomes more self-parodying by the day.
- YeGoblynQueenne 7y agoThis is still flagged and my new post on the same subject from another source was flagged and closed down. That's OK, then? This community has no other way to deal with controversy, than to sweep it under the carpet?
