I agree with what you are saying but it is still not out of time for you. You can start building up your math repertoire by starting simple in something like Khan academy and working your way up. You can eventually also try free courses which universities offer online. Most of the math I know is not due to have amazing mentorship but being forced to do the exercises day in day out.
