The most concise summary I can come up with is in the article:
> Google's primary business is incompatible with unimpeded content blocking.

- djanogo 7y agoDo you collect any stats for overall ads blocked?, I wonder how much $$ damage you did to Google finances since you launched your extensions on Chrome and Firefox.
- aw3c2 7y agoThere is no damage being done by ad blocking, please don't use such language.
- guuhv 7y agoThat depends on whether you consider "lost income" to be damage. If I had a webpage or an ad business, for me it would be damage.
- lousken 7y agoThen you could start calculating things like - if a malicious ad spread ransomware and it hit some company and its network... etc.
- justinjlynn 7y agoNobody is giving me money, I consider this to be lost income, therefore everyone is doing me damage. /s
- justinjlynn 7y agoIn all seriousness though, this line of thinking is, at best, going to feel like constant victimisation if one engages in it far too often. Don't be surprised if people don't go out of their way to give you money they don't have to give you in order to get what they want in the way they want it. Lost revenue refers to revenue you could've captured if you had done things differently, so do them differently. If there's any damage done, it's damage you did to yourself.
- AnaniasAnanas 7y agoTo my knowledge ublock origin/umatrix do not spy on their users in this manner.
- AllegedAlec 7y ago> I wonder how much $$ damage you did to Google finances since you launched your extensions on Chrome and Firefox. I wonder how much $$ damage google does to us by loading unwanted and unnecessary adds on our (metered or limited) internet lines.
- throwaway2048 7y agoThanks for your hard work, you have made the web massively more useful for hundreds of millions of people. Never give up the fight.
- abrodersen 7y agoThank you for keeping the web usable. Cheers!
- boapnuaput 7y agoMore folks should read the 10-K [0], as it is pretty interesting. Among other things, it does say that content-blocking tools pose a threat to Google's advertising business, and that Chrome is important to Google's product lineup. - throwaway2048 7y agoThat is their 2015 10-K interesting to see that: "New technologies could block online ads, which would harm our Google business." has been amended to "New and existing technologies could affect our ability to customize ads and/or could block ads online, which would harm our business." So clearly Google now considers existing ad-blocking technology to be a threat to their business. https://seekingalpha.com/filing/4328532 https://seekingalpha.com/filing/4328532
