It reminded me of Ecstatica (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecstatica https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecstatica), an early 90s game that rendered character with sorted ellipsoids. It also reminds me of Ballz 3D, which also used sorted circles for rendering.
