Are trucks best selling because people need vehicles to move big or heavy things and when all you are moving is people and luggage you just get an uber, bus, train, plane?
I am a remote worker and have an f150 I drive about once a week.
- yostrovs 7y agoNo, it's because they're roomy inside, safer to drive, and when you needthe storage it's there.
- village-idiot 7y agoNo, it’s because of the perception of utility and self-sufficiency. Trucks are very similar to sports cars, they’re sold on the perception of capability and the way the driver perceives themself, not around how the vehicle will actually be used. Also, sedans are safer than trucks, by a lot. Not only are trucks more prone to rollovers, but IIHS rates a lot of high selling trucks as having a “poor” structure likely to suffer incursions during a collision. Only 1 truck in 2019 got a IIHS top safety pick, a few minivans got honored, and well over a dozen sedans got picked.
- yostrovs 7y agoYou should see how much crap Americans like to bring with them to kids baseball games, camping, etc. Sedans can't hold it all and vans are not cool. SUVs and trucks fit the American lifestyle.
- village-idiot 7y agoThat's more an argument to stop buying so much crap than it is an argument to buy a wasteful vehicle.
- chiefofgxbxl 7y agoSo how did Americans 10+ years ago manage to live with sedans? I remember my mom and us four children all sitting in a Jetta, and later a Passat (slightly roomier). Was it a little cramped? Perhaps. Would it have been worth spending an extra $10,000 and more on gas to have a larger vehicle like many Americans are doing today and end up driving alone anyway? Nope.
