Anecdotal, and not claiming to be smart. With that said, I found myself working in two call centers during college (more evidence for not that smart!). I did much worse during training than most of the class in both jobs and outperformed the entire class after a month or two. I liked to comfort myself by thinking that they really didn't know what they were doing whereas I was actually thinking about it.
Of course, there is also that whole thing about people with good mental schemas / organization (KNOWING how to think logically) not using working memory nearly as much and becoming LESS competent in novel situations until they have time to optimize, and then they don't win out on IQ but structure.
Again, anecdotally, I know people irl who wing "general intelligence" tests often given at IT/finance companies. When they get the right answer on these problems, they can't explain it - they either get it intuitively or they don't, but when they get it intuitively, they get it much faster than I do with logic.
