    Not quite, wheat is cheap and easy to grow with both extensive and intensive farming options. Especially easy to harvest. (Compared to, say, rice, corn, beans or even potatoes.) Funny that white bread is cheaper when brown requires less processing.

    Perhaps, but also I don't think it's just coincidence that wheat and similar grains are what made western civilization possible.
