Just a niggle, but "senior web engineer"... in 1995? Uh... given that Netscape Navigator was released in DECEMBER of 1994, can any of us say we were a "senior" "web" ANYTHING in 1995? Sure, I was doing Usenet back on Unix machines in the late 80's in college, but that's not "web." And in 1994, I was dual booting Win3.11 (with Trumpet winsock) and Slackware, and getting on the internet with a free SLIP account, but I was doing Usenet, IRC, FTP, and gopher. Come on, now. "Pretty new" doesn't even begin to describe it. Am I missing something here?
- logfromblammo 7y agoSenior, Web Engineer Which is to say making HTML web pages during my last year of high school. Just ignore the comma.
- mjd 7y agoYeah, you're missing that I was there really early. I was in charge of all the programming and system administration for pathfinder.com, at that time the central web site for all of Time Warner, starting from spring of 1995. At the time I was hired I already had a lot more experience than a lot of other people around; I had been a sysadmin and webmaster for the computer science department of a large university. I think “pretty new” is accurate. Both the CGI standard and NCSA Mosaic had been released in 1993, with the <FORM> element specified in 1994. I had been running a popular personal web site with innovative features since very early 1994.
