That blog post is amazing.
- mzs 7y agoSomething similar happened to me years ago. In the process I sent a tar-ball. He replied with, "Please resend the attachment as industry standard ZIPFILE."
- r00fus 7y agoAt least for that one, it can ostensibly explained by "In Windows tar isn't supported". But a security director being suspicious of PGP encryption is a sign of a know-nothing in a position of power.
- _jal 7y ago...A security director blustering about "I will not be sold to or scammed!" is another clear demonstration of clue-deficiency. I mean, come on - do they also ask strangers to hold their wallet?
- munchbunny 7y agoI would hope that any security person, even Windows based, understands what a .tar (or .tar.gz) is. If they don't, I'd be very worried for what else they haven't been paying attention to.
- mr_toad 7y agoWinZip and 7z support tgz.
- KingMachiavelli 7y agoNo one in their right mind would use anything but 7zip... especially trailware like WinZip and WinRar. Windows has built in Zip support if you're not in-the-know but to go out of your way to use WinZip/WinRar implies a certial level of out of date knowledge.
- r00fus 7y agoBy default Windows handles Zip files in Explorer. Ostensibly it's fair to assume that "I don't run non-standard apps when I can avoid it" is a reasonable (if limiting) premise.
