Amazon.co.uk and .de are down
It appears that the UK domain for online retailer Amazon is down. With reports all over Twitter and confirmed by TNW personally, the site does not appear to be responding regardless of the location from which you’re trying to access it.
- zeedotme 16y agoAll European sites now.

- bradmccarty 16y agoAnon is somewhat taking credit: http://twitter.com/#!/anonops/status/14068450506833922 http://twitter.com/#!/anonops/status/14068450506833922
- Jem 16y ago'Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!'?
- zeedotme 16y agowe've just included a screenshot of it in the post
- bradmccarty 16y agoSorry. Anon pulled it, then posted another statement saying that they couldn't confirm for fear of losing their accounts again. Screenshot of the original tweet in the post on TNW.
- mooism2 16y agoThat link 404s for me. Copy+paste error?
- chaosmachine 16y agoAnon had (sort of) taken credit on twitter, but the message was quickly replaced with "We cant confirm anything because we'll lose our accounts again."
- Jem 16y agoI see. Now the cynic in me wonders if they're genuinely involved or taking advantage of the fact that everyone basically assumes it's them. ;)

- Tichy 16y agoChristmass shopping has begun in earnest?
- digitalclubb 16y agoDoes anyone know how much traffic Anons botnets could generate? Surely it would be nowhere near enough to have any kind of impact on Amazon's cloud infrastructure.. Must be because of something else such as human error and just really bad timing?
- chubs 16y agoLast i heard, they had 1500 people running their LOIC app. So, not all that much...
- tybris 16y agoProbably just a BGP thing. The Internet is practically duct-taped together, sometimes the glue gets a little soft.
- SpikeGronim 16y agoSo far, I have seen no evidence for a 'BGP thing'.
- SpikeGronim 16y agoTheir most public attack tool, 'LOIC' [1], uses HTTP requests to try and exhaust a target website's connection capacity. It's a simple attack and the tool is flawed [2]. They're not trying to deny service at layer 3, they're attacking the layer 7 web app. It's relatively easy to detect these requests and shrug them off. 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOIC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOIC 2. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1988045 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1988045

- teoruiz 16y agoAWS's services in Europe (Dublin, Ireland) seem to be having latency problems: http://status.aws.amazon.com/#EU_block http://status.aws.amazon.com/#EU_block
