Witches didn’t want to be burned.
It’s also pretty insulting to throw the word tweens in there, implying that transgender issues are just a tween phase.
- antt 7y agoYour ideology and bias is showing. You're fighting a straw man that has nothing to do with what I said.
- b_tterc_p 7y agostrictly speaking, I’m glad that my world views are clearly communicated in my words
- antt 7y agoThe problem is that it's much more clearly communicated by your blind spots and assumptions. In 20 years when a generation of children with butchered bodies for the sake of a vocal minority ask you "Why?" what will you say "But I only meant to do good!"? The path to hell is paved with good intentions, and the neon hair fringe of the trans community is racing down that high way as fast as it can.
- b_tterc_p 7y agoThis is a studied thing. Some do, but the vast majority do not regret sex change operations. Also it’s highly unlikely that people would ask why. We aren’t forcing people to get transgender operations. If anything we are encouraging them not to. They’re the ones pushing for it. They know why it happened. Extreme liberal parents might exist who ok it at the drop of a hat but I’ll bet a dollar they’re the edge case. Lastly most operations occur on adults. Your opinion seems to be that all transgender is bad, but you’re angling it on the subset that might be more grey

- aiscapehumanity 7y agoSounds like you're conflating the scope and aim of your comments when it suits your point. Going from a snark at the general trans approach to a whatabout the neon cult and such. Hmm
- jstewartmobile 7y agoI don't really know what you wrote, but considering that every other comment has been flagged, I'm pretty sure I would have liked it. Welcome to hackernews!
- flukus 7y ago> It’s also pretty insulting to throw the word tweens in there, implying that transgender issues are just a tween phase. They didn't imply that at all, the problem is that we are performing life changing cosmetic surgery on people not mature enough to consent. The other issue is that it doesn't really treat the disorder, it transforms the body to match the mind, all other psychiatry tries to get the mind to adapt to it's environment, it's a failure of psychiatry.
- b_tterc_p 7y agoThey did imply it. They said the problem was transgender acceptance. That is not an age qualified statement. The following statement was specific to tweens, which implies the poster views it as a tween originating self image. Regardless, this feels purposefully naive to me. Gender identity issues could well be biological or mental health related. There are plenty of things for which do cosmetic surgery or otherwise accept as untreatable including sexual orientation. We are comfortable doing liposuction en masse for people who are just fat. Maybe there is an argument that on average young transgender people would be better off waiting a few years. That has nothing to do with the thesis of transgender acceptance being a problem. Nor does your opinion trump another individuals ability to offer their own consent. I will, without any evidence, confidently say that in either case, telling a young person that their feelings of gender dysphoria are irrelevant until they’re an adult is definitely the wrong way to do this. Lack of hormones != lack of transgender acceptance
