May suggest running Ubuntu in a VM for a while, see how it works for you? Not that that will help address driver issues. Fwiw, it's my current setup - I'm currently trying to decide between installing it outside the VM, or migrating to a cloud desktop. Unix still isn't a great desktop, but, as the alternatives get worse, it's coming into its own.
