Good post! I especially appreciated "staging = production - users", simple and easy to remember. It is so useful to have very similar setups in staging and production. In particular, I really try to avoid having a different architecture (eg: 32bits vs 64bits, or different versions of ubuntu, or passenger just in production etc). It makes it easier to catch issues earlier.
