In the case of Apple, Tim Cook has spent quite a while working with Steve Jobs so he's no stranger to collaborating with a loose canon and could probably handle Musk pretty well.
Just speculating, of course.
- rchaud 7y agoThe difference is Jobs' obsession was limited to consumer electronics, more or less, and he pushed the company to focus heavily on a very limited range of products. Musk on the other hand will talk about cars one day, then solar energy the next, then the Hyerloop, then landing on Mars and making toy flamethrowers. The fit could not be more wrong. Apple's acquired properties are quietly extinguished and replaced with Apple branding. Musk wouldn't have the temperament to play second fiddle to anybody else.

- MR4D 7y agoI think that’s a good point. Unfortunately, soon after, the Tesla keyboards probably won’t work well anymore.
- ChrisBland 7y agoThe keyboards would work fine on the touch screen, but every 2 years you'd need to buy a new dongle to plug in your battery
- netsharc 7y agoWas Steve Jobs comparable to Musk? Any examples? Jobs/Apple overhyped (and sometimes still do) features of their products, but never to the point of making promises they couldn't keep, IMO.

- awinder 7y agoSo much more elizabeth holmes than steve jobs...
- smileysteve 7y agoThe Lisa? The NEXT? Prices kept increasing, features were overhyped, and the Mac ended up being better in most ways.
- microtherion 7y agoI seem to recall that Steve was more involved with the Mac than the Lisa. Also, in the context of the current discussion, the Steve that Tim Cook worked with was not young, reckless Steve, but an older and somewhat more mellow and responsible Steve.
- cgy1 7y agoA Steve Jobs that had spent some time in the wilderness away from Apple to mature and grow. Musk is probably more similar to Jobs before he left Apple the first time.
- xkjkls 7y agoYeah, but Musk is like Steve Jobs 1.0. Steve Jobs before NeXT and Pixar.
