I've been a MacOS/iOS developer for decades, alongside a healthy bit of Linux development, and more than anything this year I want to switch 100% to Linux-only development if only for the fact that Open Source still gives us the best developer experience when it comes to working things out.
If the documentation sucks - use the source. This is a lot more palatable on Linux than it is on MacOS/iOS.
That said, I do have to wonder if this is all just a bit of a side-effect of an internal re-org that Apple are preparing us for, with the move to Marzipan? I'm not holding my breath, but I find it difficult to conceive of the notion that Apple don't have something up their sleeve with the future merging of iOS/MacOS that will make us all quite devoted to their ways, yet again ..
Remember, its developers who drive computing forward. Whatever is done to the platform, it must accommodate the strategy of capture of developer mindset.
