I read ChinaRX recently, and it included a lot of similar concerns. But it emphasized that a lot of the components and active ingredients are produced in China, and some American companies are not always very vigilant or thorough in checking the purity or quality of their suppliers. So even if a pill is made in America, it could still be at risk as much as a foreign pill. The book kind of veered off in parts to being a little bit fear-mongery/off topic--a large portion of it was rehash of a Planet Money chicken tax podcast, and then another large block was focused on container ships-- though so I wouldn't really recommend it.
