- Veen 7y agoFukushima was the result of two unfortunate circumstances: very old reactors and a tsunami. The technology has improved immeasurably since Fukushima was built.
- dmfdmf 7y agoTrue. Also note, Tepco wanted to replace Fukushima Reactors with the more modern designs like GE ABWR reactors but were blocked by the enviros. So in the 90's Fukushima reactors were uprated to ~110% power instead. Source: Me, worked on the Fukushima power uprate project.
- mimixco 7y agoAll current commercial reactors and all proposed new ones use the same basic PWR and BWR designs as "old" reactors, most of which are past their design lifetimes. Russia even continues to operate 11 RBMK reactors.
