Simple. Because then token citizens will mix in with workforces and start filing lawsuits against folks who wronged them and get settlements above and beyond their pay.
This post is only half glib. The serious half is we should work dilligently to decriminalize reasonable immigration cases like seasonal work. We can keep the money and weapons movement illegal if you like. But human movement for work? It's strictly pride and a fair measure of racism that keeps us from the obvious conclusion that the border should be a rubber stamp.
- pandaman 7y agoWhat about all other countries in the world which have borders and restrictions on crossing them? Pride + racism too?
- KirinDave 7y agoSome of them, surely. Some of them, surely not. We're talking about the US in this thread. Saying, "Well what about the Korean border?" like it's all that relevant is a waste of everyone's time in a conversation about the US borders. I'm not espousing a universal policy. I'm saying US border politics are currently (and historically have almost always been) about racism, and it shows.
- pandaman 7y agoWell, I had been just curious how you reconcile your ideas with reality. Thanks, not gonna waste your time anymore.
