IRS could help out Open Source projects and make it way easier for them to apply for grant money. But they make it very tough to get 5013c status. I’m for quite strict tax enforcement but that should be changed. Also of course private companies need to start stepping up and providing the often only small sums of money needed to fix these projects via bug bounties and fees to the maintainers.
