In this case, I'm not sure I believe SQL is lower level than an ORM. SQL actually seems higher level than what most OO languages give you, and I wonder if that's a big part of the problem with ORMs. Maybetthat's why the abstractions that ORMs give you generally seem more complex than SQL.
