You hear a lot of stories of people being in life threatening situations and make irrational decisions, and the ones who survived saying they cannot explain why, but this one stupid thing they focused on was somehow extremely important to them at the time.

Similarly, I find it odd in those "real life crime" TV shows when cops comment on how someone's affect and demeanor "aren't right" following a murder.
