Not to be all capitalist-reductionist about it, but I think this is really a case of over supply - an English major bubble bursting - that will result in a new equilibrium. Not an extinction event.
- Fomite 7y agoNot to be all ecologist about it, but smaller populations trying to find an equilibrium that are also subject to external shocks (like the 2008 recession's impact on university budgets) are extremely susceptible to stochastic extinction.
