- techntoke 7y agoAlt-right commentator who pretends to be left of center.
- iron0013 7y agoWhy is it that when someone claims to be left of center I know that they’re about to say something right-wing? It’s a transparent attempt to nudge the Overton window by making it seem as though “the center” is even further right than the commentator.
- wahern 7y agoOne of this week's XKCD themes, Waiting for the But: https://xkcd.com/2146/ https://xkcd.com/2146/ I don't mean to pick on anybody. It's a common rhetorical device, which is why the comic is funny. I've used it and struggle not to (not always successfully).
- rspen 7y agoIf you actually bothered to watch more than one of his videos you'd easily be able to surmise he is politically left of center. He's probably more of a classic liberal than a modern one, but he wants things such as single payer health care, progressive taxes, etc. Those are definitely left of center ideas.
- burfog 7y agoPew Research has determined that the Overton window has barely moved at all for the right-wing, but has moved quite a bit for the left-wing. This means that what you perceive as nudging may in fact just be trying to hold it in place. We can call it a Theory of Overton Relativity. https://imgur.com/QJd2gRB https://imgur.com/QJd2gRB (a really interesting set of histograms) https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/10/05/takeaways-on-americans-growing-partisan-divide-over-political-values/ https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/10/05/takeaways-o...
