Interesting article - all of the referenced studies are about the real world, and the benefits of those interactions I definitely agree with - and yet the author leads with an anecdote about a tweet leading to a job. I'm less convinced that the claimed benefits of casual networks (feeling connected, for example) accrue to purely online casual relationships.
