I am a proponent of nuclear, but wouldn't use of extra energy during off peak times apply to renewables even more so? Unless there are massive improvements in efficiency and cost-effectiveness of storage, adapting usage to production of intermittent sources seems like it would maximize yield and minimize investment costs.
