Midwifes are an optional thing in the US; lots of hospitals are OBN/GY-lead & they handle all the ante-natal, post-natal, and delivery stuff. We found one of the few midwife-led hospitals in the Bay Area and had a very similar experience to the NHS Scotland midwife-led birthing centres.
