If I'm required an app for a "ticket", they can go fuck themselves. Maybe that sounds simplistic. But I don't care.

- tracer4201 7y agoThis is a great post. You echo my thoughts exactly in a concise and direct manner.
- locusofself 7y agousername checks out
- loktarogar 7y agothat's pretty much the feeling in the Blizzard games community, Blizzcon attracts 30k+ people and this year they're forcing this app. that's ignoring the purchasing process that included a "no tickets available" screen that you could just delete in web inspector and buy tickets and 50 million other security fails
- millstone 7y agoThis is a failing of Apple (and Google? not sure what their motivations are here). Smartphone apps need to be ephemeral, up and running in <5 seconds and deleted as quickly. The heavyweight install/delete process means they're going to be fighting against the web's tide.
- acdha 7y ago> Smartphone apps need to be ephemeral, up and running in <5 seconds and deleted as quickly. Since the latter two points have been true for years, I’m assuming this comes down to what you have in mind by “ephemeral”? Something about whether it leaves an App Store purchase record behind or can persist data using e.g. iCloud?
- bigiain 7y agoYep. And if they don't tell me until after I've bought the ticket, my first action will be to call up my bank and dispute the charge. I bought a ticket. Pretty sure there's sufficient well know meanings of that word to ensure requiring me to have a phone capable of running their app is "not fit for purpose" under consumer law in pretty much _any_ jurisdiction. You do though, need to be prepared to walk away from that Blizzcon/Overwatch/ArcticMonkeys/whatever show. (And my second action after calling the bank will be to find a way to let the artist/event I'm now not going to know exactly why...)
- klyrs 7y agoSame. I'm a happy lineageos user, so I can't even get the app without doing a few hours' research and labor. I'm sure BlizzCon will miss me more than I'll miss them.
