I don't know about the US but it has already happened in France. Retirement used to be after 40-42 years of work and it's been increased to about 45. It's still unsustainable and it's expected to increase again to 47-49. The politicians are dragging their feet because nobody wants to be the guy announcing that, but it's going to happen, it's just a matter of time with the president rotating every few years until one will be painted in a corner.
