You can build a company around a product but having just a product leads no where. Look at what you are doing and determine if what the VC said is true. VCs look at 100s of businesses opportunities and it's unlikely that they are confused by the difference between a company and a product. Take the comment as advice. Review what you are doing and seek advice rather than try to argue the point before you do anything.
