- sureaboutthis 8y agoNeither HBO nor Showtime existed at the time. And NONE of the original cable channels had commercials because there was only one channel, iirc, and all of the shows came via Warner. It's obvious you are too young to know about these things at the beginning. I'm talking early 1980s when cable was making its big move across the country.
