Shameful to see a Douglas Murray article posted on Hacker News... This guy's whole MO is saying racist/xenophobic things and then complaining about PC "mob mentality" when people say he's a racist or a xenophobe.

Why is he a racist and/or xenophobe? If you mean because he's criticising Islam, then I believe you are wrong. I read his book "The strange death of Europe: immigration, identity, Islam" and found it to be balanced, copiously referenced and frankly very scary. There is currently no other group of people on this planet that I know of that is hunting down the people they dislike and executes them. Maybe the Mexican cartels.

  The book’s title implies Muslim immigration is the death of Europe, that’s pretty xenophobic. He refuses to call Tommy Robinson a racist, that’s pretty racist. If there’s ever an argument and race is a component, you’re not going to find him on the right side. He tip-toes around explicit racist statements on purpose but when looked at broadly I think he’s pretty clearly helping racist causes, I don’t think it’s an accident, and I don’t think he minds. Frankly it’s a bit telling that the only other comparable group to jihadi terrorists you can think about are Mexican. You should read some criticism of Murray, read some left media. I think you’d be surprised that it’s not all the PC nonsense that Murray and co complain about.

    "Xenophobia is the fear and distrust of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange." Some are afraid of different people just because they're different. According to the book, the author is afraid of those different people because he noticed that too many of them abuse women, want to kill Jews, hate gays and generally don't give a crap about societal values which us Europeans fought for decades to attain. And if you criticise them, maybe they'll murder you. That book paints a bleak picture about how tolerance towards illiberal thought and action is threatening our liberal European societies. Because of the almost insufferable social climate which doesn't even tolerate discussion of wide spread problems with worshippers of Islam, we end up in horrific and absurd situations. Like in the UK, where a gang of "Asian men", in fact Pakistani men were gang raping and pimping children. And they were targeting white children, by the way. Where was the police in all of this? Paralysed by fear that they would be accused of racism, they let the victim count grow to more than one thousand four hundred children. 1400! The rapists were so brazen as to pick up the victims in front of their houses, threatening to harm their parents if they didn't come willingly. Or we have Cologne, where hundreds of women were sexually assaulted and pawed like animals by groups of men of "Arab or North African appearance", according to the police chief. Most suspects were from Morocco and Algeria, they were able to convict a ridiculously tiny number. "Mathies did acknowledge that many of the alleged perpetrators were from countries where they might be familiar with "this behaviour, where women are hemmed in and then abused by a large number of men at once." But here's the kicker: those groups of men later gave it another shot, but the police was out in force this time and kept the situation under control. And several politicians were publicly criticising the police for focusing their efforts on people matching the appearance of the original perpetrators! I won't bore you with more examples, suffice to say that I don't want my family or my friends or anyone to fear for their safety because of political correctness. The state and police are obviously paralysed by fear of being labeled racists, so the population is becoming more and more resentful, voting for extremist parties. But for some bizarre reason there's a large group of people that keep yelling "racism!", "xenophobia!" no matter what. And then they're still surprised when they see Trump getting elected, The Visegrad group completely rejecting the silly refugee quotas, Brexit, etc.
