The site is called Hacker News.
- na85 8y agoYes it is, and the community here likes to pretend this is a gathering of great thinkers and intellectuals where the big issues are discussed.
- dang 8y agoThe community isn't human, so it can't pretend anything, and if you're interpreting individuals that way, that seems error-prone. I think HN would be worse if "the big issues" were excluded, and also if the clever and possibly pointless were excluded (e.g. porting vim to Wasm). Fortunately we can have both. As for pompous-sounding comments...this is the internet. Let's not raise our standards too high.
- DanBC 8y agoThe submitted article is written by a racist controversialist, in a strongly partisan publication, about someone who is a xenophobic racist. It's hard to have an honest discussion because we have to do so much cultural scene setting for people who don't know these facts first, and then we have to debunk all the lies in the article. And while we're doing that the usual suspects are saying fucking stupid shit like "of course being vehemently against all Muslims and every form of Islam isn't xenophobic".
