i dont think that is the case. people care about their privacy, and facebook provides adequate controls to make them feel safe. they have not had leaks of private messages for example, which would be very embarassing. and compared to the wide web at large, they are have pretty good security. HN users live in a bubble where money grows in VC trees and nobody needs advertising.
